やくぶそく【役不足】

dissatisfaction with the part assigned to one [one's role].

●役不足である be worthy of a better role

・与えられた仕事を役不足だと思う feel oneself above the work offered [worthy of better things].

●役不足の不満を訴える complain of one's (poor) part; be discontent with the role assigned [given] to one

・君には役不足の感があるかもしれないが, どうか引き受けてくれ. You may feel worthy of a better role, but please accept this one.

●大女優にこんな端役は役不足かと心配したが, 彼女は出演を快諾してくれた. I was worried whether this great actress would be dissatisfied with such a minor role, but she readily consented to perform it.

・このポストでは彼には役不足です. He is worthy of [a man for] a better role.
